I got married! And honestly, it was the best day ever. I can’t separate my experience of getting married from my experience of working in the wedding industry for a decade – after having watched so many women incarnate the Bride, it was my turn. We kept it small and simple at my parent’s house in Vermont, with 16 immediate family members and a dear friend of mine, Katia Repina, capturing the day. We made the food, we picked flowers from our field, and I wore my mom’s wedding dress from 1982. Everyone came together with so much love and good intention to lift us through the sacred ritual of uniting our lives, and as the evening faded and we lit a bonfire I felt absolute euphoria.
My understand of a wedding, already deep and studied, has gained more nuance. I now share the lived experience of being a bride (and planning a wedding!) with my clients, and I’m exquisitely aware of how much it all means. I treasure every single photo from our day – it all happened so fast, and I want to hold on to it somehow. I feel so excited and honored to get back to work preserving the memories for others on their own days of love.
